Dear Colleagues
One year has now passed since the Sapporo Conference for Palliative and Supportive Care in Cancer was held. The conference featured 17 guest lecturers from 7 countries as well as approximately 700 participants from 22 countries around the globe. We offer our sincere thanks to all involved. Not only were the latest scientific advances in palliative care and medical support introduced at the conference, but it afforded a great platform for the development of new networks among the participants.
The Sapporo Conference was held to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the opening of our hospital; however, we received tremendous encouragement from all involved, and are now greatly motivated in our preparations for the 2nd Sapporo Conference.
In consideration of the schedules of the international participants, the next conference is scheduled for 2017. As part of the preparations for the 2nd Sapporo Conference, we have set up an organizing committee including members from various institutions including Prof. Hideki Onishi (Saitama Medical University International Medical Center, Psycho-Oncology Department), Prof. Michiaki Yamakage (Sapporo Medical University School of Medicine, Department of Anesthesiology, Palliative Care Unit), and Prof. Chiaki Kawanishi (Sapporo Medical University School of Medicine, Department of Neuropsychiatry). The first meeting of the organizing committee will be in September, 2015. We would greatly appreciate both your support and advice in order that we may continue the series of Sapporo Conferences in the future.
