A message from the president; Towards the 3rd and 4th Joint SCPSC one year from now

August 2021

The COVID-19 pandemic is still raging across the world. I would like to offer my heartfelt sympathy for all those who have suffered by this disaster. I also would like to express my deepest respect for the many doctors and other medical professionals who have directly fought against the pandemic. Meanwhile, many have expected exit strategies, such as through measures to control infections, vaccinations, and the development of specific agents against COVID. In particular, I think mRNA vaccines will undergo further scientific development. In Japan, the COVID-19 pandemic is predicted to be resolved by the end of 2021, despite confusing policies and holding the Olympic games.
Human movement around the world will actively resume next year with some restrictions, driven by economic activities in many fields.
The 3rd&4th Joint Sapporo Conference for Palliative and Supportive Care in Cancer (SCPSC) will be held in its regular format on July 21-23. 2022 as announced. We apologize for any anxiety experienced by the speakers, chairpersons, conference members, persons planning poster presentations, and persons who are looking forward to attending due to the change in the schedule. Despite this, not one of the speakers has expressed his/her intention not to attend. In addition, many persons have inquired about holding SCPSC next year. This in itself affirms to me the fullness of the contents of the 3rd&4th Joint SCPSC program, of which fact I am very proud. I am deeply grateful to Dr. Portenoy, Dr. Stiefel, Dr. Puchalski, Dr. Hui, Dr. Chochinov, and others who were involved in the organization of the program.
As we look forward to the 3rd&4th Joint SCPSC, the implementation committee will be sending out various announcements and notifications to everyone in the near future. We will do our best to meet everyone’s expectations, and are looking forward to seeing you next year.
